It is unfortunate that the USA have still not gotten over their defeat to Ghana. The fact still remains ghana played much better than the Brazil. I don’t think Brazil could have gotten these offside calls in their favour if they were playing England or any of the so called big nations. If they play like this against the french another three nil deafeat would be in the offing. ghana

Scores and stats don’t always reflect the play of the game. While Brazil won 3-0 at least 1 of Brazil’s goals was offside and the 3rd goal may also have been offside. If Ghana had better strikers, the score would have been closer and perhpas Ghana could have won. But again, the whole game changed when Brazil was allowed an offside goal and the referee once again aided Brazil to quell their opponents. Perhaps something should be done about the offside rule as it is simply too arbitrary and inconsistently applied. Something like instant replays oculd be used to make correct offside calls. Not having any offide rule, though, could actually be beneficial to the game as it could mae for a much more open, higher scoring affair.

reese, two questions for you. did you even watch the game? and are you retarded? brazil got one goal on a botched call and another after they went up a man. ghana had more corners (4-3) and more shots (18-11). brazil played well/better but i wouldn’t say, “Ghana was on the receiving end of a shitstorm” by any stretch of the imagination. Now on to your attempted insults which, ironically, were about as effective as those of a 12 year old. The line, “The oxymoronic nature of your face was reflected by the mirror of that headline” was priceless. If you hadn’t just rambled incoherently for a whole paragrah I might have actually thought it was an attempt at being deep. Did you mean “moronic”? Were you in fact calling the headline “ironic”? Perhaps you were going for, “Your moronic nature was mirrored by your oxymoronic headline?”… but even that doesn’t make sense. Anyway, you are clearly an oxymoron.

Finally, Christo, the language police probably want you to stop misusing the word “insufferable”… and they definitely want you to whine less about irrelevant things.

Please, Aaron, stop calling the foul a handball. The foul is “handling,” or more fully, “handling the ball deliberately.”

This discussion captures the reason for using the proper term better than I could:

“The language police may seem insufferable to fuss at people for calling it a “handball”, but this time they have a point: this terminology is not a harmlessly incorrect informality like calling offside instead “offsides,” but instead subtly misleads toward incorrect understanding of the rule itself. It is a rule against deliberately playing the ball with the hands or arms, i.e. “handling” it, and not a rule against the ball striking the hand and arms during play, i.e. a “handball”.

Ghana was on the receiving end of a shitstorm there. The Brazilians made Ghana look like a u14 girls team. Maybe that’s what blurred your vision. You’re used to the u14 world and anything else doesn’t register. That can be the only possible explanation for why anyone could say a team that got spanked 3-0 were the ones doing the outplaying.

The oxymoronic nature of your face was reflected by the mirror of that headline.

Aaron, you are doing a yeoman’s task in commenting every or almost every game. Thanks.

Now as a fan of Brazil, I don’t see Ghana as even coming close to “outplaying” the verde/amarelo side. The score after all was 3 x 0 and could have been more. I do agree however that Adriano was probably offside on the 2nd goal.

I cannot agree also on getting rid of the offside call. As a ref., I love the challenge of making the call and getting it right. Although certainly we make wrong calls frequently enough but that is part of the human element of the game which makes it unpredictable and therefore more interesting and lovely.
