Then to add more confusion to the mix referees are picked not by their ability to referee but for their phisical appearance and general good looks.
Does the referee fit the image of a hollywood star.

Never mind if he can handle the game, as long as he looks good, that is all that matters.

Who remembers Mario Van der Ende, over weight a bit slow, but what a MASTER at running a game, by letting the players play, and exercising his duty as referee when it was needed.

Today we have many referees who look nice, but have no idea what and how the game is played.
All they know is what they are instructed to do because must be instructed THEY DO NOT HAVE THE INSTINCT of the game.

Add to that coaches who are STARS (Mourinho) and you have incidents like Zidanes, then FIFA and Mr. Blatter continue to insult everyones inteligence by making excuses for one of the main cast Stars.

It is very simple, Zidane is an spoiled brat that got caught and should have been punished severly and not be allowed to make excuses.

For those of us who played, how often did an opponent tried to get your concentration of the game by quietly telling that he slept with your wife last night?

We would be banned from our team if we took an action that put the rest of our team mates at a disadvantage.

The real players smiled and said, ” i hope you enjoyed it because I am married to your Sister” and got on with the game, rather then be so offended and forget what we were there to do.

Today we (FIFA) allows these Stars to come on TV and try to justify what they did by saying that they were offended by the action of the opponent.

Well WE Are All Offended by the lack of respect that Zidane and players like him have for the game.

They are not bigger then the game.

And for those of you who make excuses for this behaviour, all I have to say is that I am glad you did not referee when i did, and better yet when i played.
