Im sorry but the english fans are sore loosers, after watching the news with some english fans comenting on how they were booing Rolando during the France Portugal game is really stupid, the only people they have to blame is themself,Rooney lost his temper and intentionally stepped on the Portuguese player its as clear as day.Rooney is weak minded and needs to grow up,England needs to realize this.

Wayne Rooney lost the plot and fouled the Portuguese player deliberately. You have to be blind or English to not see that the foul was indeed on purpose (watch the video at http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/w/bracket.html

England should swallow their pride and congratulate the Portuguese on beating them 3 times running. The press in the UK have their own 'Media Reality' of events and choose to take it out on Ronaldo when England loosing the game is very clearly down to Wayne Rooney for behaving badly and throwing a tantrum which ended up destroying any chances England had of winning. Do we English seriously believe we were playing as if we were the best team in the world? Well done Portugal and ignore the English Xenophobics

I believe that rooney was sent off for the stomp on the groin of Carvalho. In the replay it looked very intentional.
In any case, Elizondo could have cautioned rooney for the stomp(usb) and then cautioned him again for the shove(usb) which would still lead to his sending off.

Newspapers and news selling corps. cannot change the results of the reality we live on. So they generate expectations.
The surprising news - those that don't go along the expectations - are the ones that sell better.
That why, in the news, everything is very great or completely wrong.

England was great - now is wrong..

England never was a favourite to win this world cup.

The general concensus that I am getting from a lot of people here is that the majority of the matches have been fixed and the eventual outcome of the tournament has already been preditermined.(its common to see the host nation do better than expected) but is this possible. I dont know if this is just a case of sore loosers as the main two favourites ,Brazil and England have been ousted.Very dis to see Aust out on what what could be seen as a dodgy ref dec but it seems there have been quite a few others as well.

I would agree with the original poster, that on replay, a penalty should not have been awarded on the Lennon incident in the box, despite my initial impressions as an England fan...

Anybody know the full referee assignments for the semis? I see Archundia posted as the center for the first semi, but no info about who the fourth will be or who the center will eb for the 2nd semi. Archundia was not used in the quarters, so my guess is that the centers and fourths will be the four referees not used in the quarters of teh 12 retained. I still would like to see Shield of Australia in the center for the final, although I think that FIFA may be preparing him for a larger role in WC 2010 as he is the youngest referee at the tournament. Rosetti or Michel would also be good choices for the final, Rosetti of course assuming Italy is not in the final.

I'm really puzzled how you could say "A minute later, the ref made a good decision not to award a penalty to England when Lennon was well-defended, but ended up going down in the box" when contact was very clearly made - check the replays. A difficult call perhaps but no more so than some (Italy v Australia comes to mind).
I beleive this, rather than the Rooney red card, was the missed call that changed the match.
